What is the date of the race? What time does it start?

The 2005 Sun-Herald City to Surf will be held on Sunday 14th August. The race starts at the earlier time of 9.30am.

Can I fax in my entry form?

Faxed entries are not accepted because for legal reasons we need an original signature on the entry form. Also, faxes are nearly always unreadable.

Sydney Morning Herald

Divisions and Categories: what do these mean?

As an individual, you are automatically entered into the ‘First to Finish’ category and the ‘Age’ category according to age and sex; you need to do nothing else but fill out your entry form (and send it in to us!).

The ‘category’ box on your entry form is for those people who are entering as a team. If you wish to enter as a team, please review the team categories and determine which is applicable to you

What is the difference in times between the start groups?

This is totally dependant upon race conditions on the day. However do not be concerned you will receive a credit for the time difference. For example if the HSBC Start commences 10 minutes and 20 seconds after the first starting gun HSBC entrants will have 10mins and 20secs deducted from their finish time.

Where does all the money go?

The Sun-Herald City to Surf does not make a profit and is dependent upon its sponsors to make it financially viable. However, more than 2,500 volunteers are required to work on the day and are drawn from community organisations such as Rotary Clubs, Scouts and Girl Guides, Sporting Clubs, Bush Fire Brigades, State Emergency Services, etc, and each organisation receives a ‘per volunteer’ donation.

In addition hundreds organisations use The Sun-Herald City to Surf as a fund raising opportunity for their registered charity, a community or school group. Many corporate team entries chose a specific charity each year who benefits from their fund raising efforts.

Can I pick up my chest bib before race day? From what time can I pick up my chest bib on the day?

No, you cannot pick up your chest bib before race day. (However, if your entry form is received before 6th July , you will receive your chest bib by mail).

If your entry form is received after 6th July you will receive an Identification Card in the mail with your chest bib number on it; you must take this card with you on the day to collect your chest bib. You can collect your chest bib from the designated area for your start group from 7.00am. Further details can be found in the Runners Guide which will be sent to you along with your Identification Card.

Is there a time limit for finishing The Sun-Herald City to Surf?

No, there will be people at the finish gates until no more people are coming through; this is usually around 2.30pm. Roads are opened progressively as the number of competitors thins out along the course. As this happens, the Police will ask remaining competitors to move up on to the footpath to complete the course.
