The Bondi Pavilion Community
Cultural Centre and
the Australian Kiteflyer's Society Present
The 27th Annual
Sunday
September 11th 2005 11.00 am to 4.00 pm
Make sure you don’t miss Australia’s largest and
most exciting kite flying festival at Sydney’s most famous beach - Bondi
Beach. The skies will come alive once again with hundreds of kites of all
shapes and sizes from local and international kite makers and flyers.
Expert kite artists from around Australia and this
years’ highly regarded kite maker Charlie Watson from New Zealand
will fly their spectacular creations at the Festival. See Charlie Watson’s
spinning line laundry, unique faces, his dragon head “Snuffles” as well as
traditional kites and creatures such as dragons, manta rays, lobsters and
flowers take to the skies. The beach will be lined with a colourful display
of large spinning bowls, windsocks and banners.
Aside from the magnificent array of large
hand-made kites that will dip and weave through the skies, we will have
several exciting demonstrations and activities in store. For the first time
ever on the East Coast of Australia the exhilarating Wingman Skydiving
Team, who add a whole new meaning to parachuting, will be dropping
through the skies onto Bondi Beach somewhere between 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm.
This group of 4 will be wearing their special 'wing suits' which allow them
to jump from a plane and glide through the air diagonally, propelled forward
across the skies until landing, in formation, like a plane onto land.
We will also be launching the enormous Music
Sculpture made by local young musicians . The sculpture is made from
recycled materials and will, through these materials, strings and other
shapes, reflect the many different sounds that occur naturally in the
environment.
There will be our full program of multicultural
music, dance and food stalls, including the five piece Punjabi/Australian
group, The Tinku Band, Bollywood Dreams, Doudoumba, Kingtide
as well as the Yidaki Children Aborginal group.
There will be Chinese Acrobats, puppets, clowns,
free music and dance workshops, adults and kids kite-making workshops,
wandering performers, children’s rides, minstrels, jugglers and the fabulous
Pacific Fly Motion Bungy Trampoline and much more.
Don’t forget to visit the Pavilion Gallery on the
day that will host kite installations and kite information, books, videos
and Festival of the Winds memorabilia, including posters and t-shirts.
The exhibition will run from 1st – 11th September.
So come along and see the many kite demonstrations,
fly your own kite, make a kite at one of our workshops or buy one from one
of the many stalls in Bondi Park on the day. For a wonderful FREE family day
out make sure you mark the Festival of the Winds in the calendar!
